Marcus hurried upstairs as he tried to reach his apartment but had to push his way through the throng of people that crammed into every available space on the first three floors of his building. The party, from what he could gather, had been going on for days without pause and had only grown as it extended outside and down the block. Such parties were frequent across the city as people not wanting to face the end alone had gravitated towards one another where inhibitions that had governed their lives were tossed out as carelessly as old worn-out jeans.
